Towards a Global Civilization:-

When the educational system is focused on grooming persons of characters, civilizations rise. When the focus shifts to merely pumping knowledge, the civilizations fall.

Human Values cannot be taught. These can only be transmitted by parents and teachers who practice these values. Parents and teachers can reprogramme themselves if they know how to do so.

A person of character has been described in pithy words in the book Sai Baba’s Mahavakya on Leadership : Education in Human Values. A person of character is:-

  • An honest person (who does not steal, cheat or tell a lie);
  • A person with sense of duties and obligations of his/her position, whatever it may be;
  • A person who tells the truth;
  • A person who gives others their due;
  • A person considerate to the weak;
  • A person who has principles and stands by them;
  • A person not too elated by good fortune and not too depressed by bad;
  • A person who is loyal;
  • A person who can be trusted (whose thoughts, words and deeds are in harmony).

If we understand the above, anyone can reporgramme him/her-self to become a person of character. The pithy advice by Sai Baba to reprogramme ourselves and become masters of our destiny is by action:

“Take care of your thoughts. Then actions will take care of themselves. Action follows thought. You sow an action and reap a tendency. You sow a tendency and reap a habit. You sow a habit and reap a character. You sow your character and reap your destiny. Therefore, destiny is your own creation. If you change your habits you can become master of your destiny. The key is also given to you i.e. the mind. Turn it outwards, you get locked to the seen world. Turn it inwards, you get focused on your real self.”

My Best Wishes,

Lt. Gen. Dr. M.L. Chibber
